St. John Chrysostom Academy, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, unites classical education and Orthodox Christian formation. Students benefit from the reliable disciplines of formal education and the nurturing environment of faith. Young minds are directed toward the Good, the Beautiful, and the True and young hearts toward the Gospel and Holy Tradition to educate and form our students as complete persons.
As we look ahead to the 2026-2027 academic year, we have the continued opportunity of bringing educators together who seek to be a part of something special and work to build the school from the ground up.
Our teachers guide students in order to fulfill their potential for spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth. Teachers work with parents and students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Teachers provide a vigorous education to all students and fulfill the first principle of classical education, namely, to meet students where they are and build upon their current knowledge.
Chrysostom Academy Grammar School
Often called ‘elementary school’ or ‘lower school,’ the grammar school grade levels at Chrysostom Academy include kindergarten through 6th grades. Grammar school students change classrooms for their specials (i.e., Greek, Art, Music, and Health).
Chrysostom Academy Upper School
Within classical education, 5th through 12th grades are referred to as the ‘upper school’. Furthermore, 5th through 8th grades are referred to as the ‘middle school’ and 9th through 12th grades as the ‘high school.’ 5th and 6th grades are combined along with 7th and 8th together and 9th and 10th together. 11th and 12th grades generally operate on an independent study basis. All upper school students rotate between classrooms for their core classes and specials classes throughout the day.
