Cultivating Tomorrow:

Farming & Agriculture at Chrysostom Academy

Cultivating Tomorrow

Chrysostom Academy is the only K to 12 school in the Lehigh Valley with a working farm on the school grounds of Monocacy Manor. As part of the Monocacy Farm Project, our students participate in the seasons of the farm from field preparations to harvest.

With the guidance of the farm’s project manager, Eli Stogsdill, the beauty of God’s creation in how it provides for our needs is explored through hands-on participation.

Sustainable Stewardship:
Monocacy Farms and Chrysostom Academy

Chrysostom Academy is honored to be a part of the Franciscan tradition of caring for the earth, Monocacy Farms employs energy-efficient and sustainable practices in each aspect of its operations. In addition to modeling responsible stewardship, the farm provides visitors and workshop participants with practical examples of sustainable alternatives through its guided tours and educational programs.

In 2019, the farm initiated a Pick Your Own program for those wishing to harvest fresh organic produce for their families. Ongoing phases of the project — as well as day-to-day operations on the farm — are managed in consultation with Rodale Institute and the Pennsylvania State University Agricultural Extension Office.
